Freezing Fun in the New Year, and other news

So much is happening in the New Year that we’re excited to start off our planning meeting this coming Sunday at 6 – 7:30 p.m.  Please, join us if you can.  We’ll be discussing the Polar Bear plunge fundraising (more below!), plus the survey results on what GNDC should prioritize, the Tool Library and its possible plans, our planning on the winter seminar(s) on city transportation and green architecture, and more.

So, FIRST, please, whether you can join us or not for the meeting or the plunge, take our survey for a fun-filled, eco-educational, impactful 2022.  Please rank your thoughts on the importance of the activities we are doing, plus make suggestions. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Z8LG3SW

Second, WE ARE DOING THE POLAR BEAR PLUNGE, we we actually jump in the freezing Potomac River February 12 to fundraise for the Chesapeake Climate Action Network to help fight climate change.  During our last happy hour, we had several members commit to plunging, though they may not remember that (ha, ha; evil laugh), and now we’re kicking off fundraising.  This is not our first plunge, but last year didn’t happen due to COVID, so we’re excited to get back in the icy water,…. aie..  But we do need more plungers, as at least one of us is out now due to surgery.  So join us.  See the fun below!

THIRD, don’t forget our meeting Sunday night.  Holler if you want the invite/Zoom link.

And a Happy New Green Year to all,

Annette, GNDC Lead

Green Neighbors taking the Plunge for our climate and all of us

On February 12th we’re taking the Polar Bear Plunge to Keep Winter Cold!

We’re plunging in support of the work of the Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN). CCAN is the first grassroots, nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to fighting global warming in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Their mission is to build a diverse movement powerful enough to put our region on the path to climate stability, while using their proximity to the nation’s capital to inspire action in neighboring states, regions nationwide, and countries around the world.

Just like a charity fun run, Plungers take pledges from their friends and family to support CCAN’s vital climate work. And guess what? This year is CCAN’s 20th anniversary, so we’re going bigger and bolder!
You can take the Plunge with us! Let us know if you want to join our team.  – https://us-p2p.engagingnetworks.app/6545/keepwintercold/116414/green-neighbors-are-the-coolest. If not, you can start donating on our team page. The first $1000 goes to CCAN, and the remaining money goes to Green Neighbors DC. As we are now helping building a city resource – the DC Tool Library (see http://www.greenneighborsdc.org/projects), and holding other events, we really could use the money. As definitely could our climate. Thanks!
