[UPDATED w photos!] 2016 Polar Bear Plunge
Update Feb 2016: We had a great time taking the Polar Bear Plunge and thanks to all our supporters who joined us raising money to help CCAN “Keep Winter Cold”. Here are a few photos from our plunge:
On January 23, for the third year in a row, the intrepid members of Green Neighbors will plunge into the freezing cold Potomac to fight climate change. Won’t you join us? It’s fun! It’s really cold! And it’s all for a great cause, to raise money to support the Chesapeake Climate Action Network and to raise funds for the Green Neighbors event series and educational materials.

Even if you can’t jump in the water with us, please consider making a donation. You can visit our team page here to join or to make a donation. Together we can keep winter cold!
Human-made greenhouse gases are trapping more heat in the atmosphere, accelerating the increase in global average temperatures. Climate change is impacting our friends, family, neighbors and, yes, the polar bears. By taking the plunge, you’ll raise awareness and help fund solutions across MD, VA and DC.
The Polar Bear Plunge is CCAN’s biggest fundraising event, powering victories to move our region off of fossil fuels and to clean energy. Each year, activists, friends and families show their commitment to fighting climate change by jumping in the icy Potomac River at National Harbor.
WHEN: Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 10:30 AM
WHERE: National Plaza, National Harbor, MD
Green Neighbors is an all-volunteer group of residents of the Petworth, Park View, Brightwood, and Columbia Heights neighborhoods in Washington, DC. Our goal is to lower our neighborhoods’ emissions of carbon and other pollutants that contribute to global warming and to make renewable energy and other sustainable resources more accessible to everyone in our community. We see ourselves as part of a larger District-wide, regional, national and international movement to preserve our climate and planet for future generations.
The Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) is the first grassroots, nonprofit organization dedicated exclusively to fighting global warming in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Our mission is to build and mobilize a powerful grassroots movement in this unique region that surrounds our nation’s capital to call for state, national and international policies that will put us on a path to climate stability.
