Meeting Minutes – February 2016

Present: David, Lisa, Fritz, Basav, Rob, Catherine

Next facilitator: Basav

Paris Climate Summit event report-back

There were about 20 people at the event. The speakers were great.

Outreach was limited because of proximity to the winter holidays. Next time we should do more outreach. We can send future event announcements to the Peace Center to put on their list.

Polar Bear Plunge report-back

Three members of Green Neighbors took the plunge: Fritz, Catherine and Max. We raised $795. All the money will go to CCAN because we didn’t raise over $1,000.

There were some reported problems with the Crowdrise fundraising website.

Everyone should send our plunge pictures to Rob to post on the GN website.

Exelon-Pepco merger update

The Public Service Commission might announce their decision about the merger at their meeting on February 23. Mark your calendars because if the PSC does plan to make their announcement at that meeting, Power DC will turn people out for the hearing.

Chesapeake Climate Action Network

We will invite a speaker from CCAN to our next meeting to discuss their upcoming plans for the District.

March 15 event about pesticides

The members of the committee working on this event are Fritz, Lisa, Catherine and James. Anyone is welcome to join!

We will have snacks starting at 6:00. The panel discussion will go from 6:30 to 8:00. If people still want to chat at 8:00 they can adjourn to Petworth Citizen for more conversation. Lisa will contact the library about whether we can serve snacks. We will have a sign-up sheet for people interested in coming to our next event.

We are working on getting speakers and will decide by this weekend if we can move forward with the event. If we move forward, Fritz will make a flier. We will make full page and half or quarter sheet versions, so we can hand them out at the metro.

Ideas for future events

Public banking

Economics of the green future / Green jobs

Lead in DC water

Riverkeepers

Picnic – could be tied to a campaign or theme

Documentary films about extreme energy

We could have some events in the event space above the new Slim’s Diner, once it’s complete.

Announcements

This Thursday 2/11 CCAN is sponsoring a town hall about health and safety of oil trains at St. John’s Church in Baltimore.
