GNDC Hosts a Tour of Tools this Saturday! DC’s Shared Tool Library.
DC HAS A TOOL LIBRARY! Did you know?!? Neither did we until late last year. We were trying to decide whether to start one, but this great one, also known as DPR’s Garden Tool Share already exists, with 139 types of tools, not all garden-related!
Weed-whackers, power washers, hedge trimmers, paper-shredders, composters, a table saw, miter saws, rakes, post-hole diggers, and, yes, even a screwdriver or two. Two hardhats, safety goggles, books about gardening, some more power tools, – and, way cool, a grain mill. Solar ovens you can check out, and I believe you can walk away with a bat box you can keep if you want (until they run out). And so much more.
Green Neighbors DC is helping the Department of Parks and Recreation kindof relaunch it by helping clean it, inventory it, manage it, and – especially – let people know about it! We’ve cleaned some now, but also, we’ve created an inventory and online checkout tool that will make things so much easier and safer, especially as we grow the library (with tools you may care to donate). You can find out more about the online inventory at: https://greenneighborsdc.org/2021/05/23/weve-launched-the-dpr-garden-tool-share-site-online-and-in-person/.

And now, we would love for you all to come see it. We’re giving tours this Saturday, 10 am – 2 pm. The DPR Garden Tool Share Library is at 1380 Taylor St NW, within the Twin Oaks Community Garden lot. Along with the actual tour, we’ll have demos of solar ovens and potentially of the tools if a certain person can make it. See attached.
