Recycling in the Neighborhood

In DC, we all have available curbside recycling collection in the blue bins provided by the city. You can click here for a list of basic items that can be recycled, as well as the day your recycling will be collected.
However, the Department of Public Works (DPW) also provides an opportunity to recycle other types of waste – especially electronics. The DPW accepts electronics for recycling, as well as household hazardous waste, every Saturday (except holidays), from 8 am to 3 pm at the Ft. Totten Transfer Station, 4900 John F. McCormack Drive, NE.  Residents may even bring household hazardous waste and electronics to Ft. Totten the Thursday preceding the first Saturday of the month (except holidays), between 1 pm and 5 pm.  On an added note, the DPW also accepts documents for shredding the first Saturday only (except holidays) of the month.
